Taff Street, Pontypridd
Project Overview
Conversion of existing commercial premises to 6 No Social Housing Flats together with envelope/ façade and structural improvements. The property is overlooked from a conservation area which required considerable debate with the Conservation Officer to satisfy there requirements relating to windows and external finishes.
The property is located within a pedestrianised area of the town centre with no vehicular access between 10.00am and 3.00pm with associated logistical issues related to deliveries and waste collections. Programming was important to ensure this could be over come, with well coordinated deliveries and OOH working when required.
Liaison with neighbours was required as scaffolding had to be erected on the street and other third party land requiring negotiation and agreement of third party licences. Neighbouring commercial premises remained occupied during the construction process which required careful planning to limit disruption.
The company also provided various community support actions to Rhondda Housing Association including work experience opportunities to individuals from hard- to-reach backgrounds. This included an individual who became employed by one of the sub-contractors after the work experience period and who actually rented one of the completed flats.
